Abstract
Schools are frequently expected to provide the solution to a range of emerging social problems.
Significant societal change has questioned the relevance of traditional curricula and approaches to teaching.
It is suggested that a relevant curriculum for the twenty-first century will give appropriate attention
to students’ sense of identity, the increasing multiculturalism of our society, technological methods of communication and information management, and personalised and individualised systems of instruction and learning.
