Abstract
This author traces a professional journey in teaching using bicycling as a metaphor to highlightuphill, freewheeling and tandem stretches along the way. Using literature to articulate stages on this
path still ongoing, readers are invited to compare experience of both specific developments in New
Zealand education and understanding of similar stages in personal and professional development as
a teacher.
